yard 3-d map
overview
interactive 3d floor plan of building 22, level 3 at nyu tandon at the yard (rlab, suite 301). built during my internship at nyu idm. walls and room nodes are measured from the matiz architecture construction plan, drawing a-001.00, and mapped into a three.js scene. plan view is a top-down map. 3d view raises the walls and lets you orbit the floor. room names, assignments, occupancy, capacity, and notes come from a google sheet the map reloads on its own, so directory updates do not need a new deploy.
features
- plan view and 3d orbit, with a short camera move between them
- click a room for its number, name, assignment, occupancy, capacity, and notes
- search across room numbers, names, people, and equipment listed in the notes
- matching ignores spaces, hyphens, and capitalization, so usb-c, usb c, and usbc hit the same item
- optional drawing overlay to compare the walls against the source plan
- a selected room links straight to its row in the sheet for editing
technical details
- react and typescript, rendered with three.js through react-three-fiber and drei
- wall segments and room positions measured from the construction-plan crop, then mapped into world coordinates with east to the right and north up
- orthographic camera for the plan; the 3d view scales wall height up and orbits that same camera
- room directory is a public google sheet, fetched as csv on open, about every 30 seconds while the tab is visible, and again when you come back to the tab
- sheet failures keep the last loaded directory and say so in the room panel
- vite build; run locally with
npm run dev
